Only 2 days until September.. the first month of spring begins! This is the time that daffodils will bloom, baby lambs will frolic, days up the mountain will be sunny and joyous... and I get a whole year older.
I don't know if it's just me, but has anyone else noticed that the world has started to spin a lot faster in recent years? Seriously - a year goes so quick - you hardly get to number 3 on your resolution or wish list for the year, and you're starting all over again for the new 'New Year'. I have no complaints about the world spinning faster - economically it's cool - my working day whizzes past, so pay day comes around a lot quicker, which then means the mortgage gets paid faster, etc, etc. See, I have this theory - the world is spinning faster - so our days and years are whizzing by, BUT we don't appear to be ageing at the same rate. I recently caught up with friends who I haven't seen in nearly a decade - we were all amazed at how much we all still look the same - we may be a bit frayed around the edges, (effects of children, work, mortgages etc) - but we definitely don't look as old as our parents looked at our age. It's almost like we're time travelling by staying in the same spot. This whirlwind of time is rushing past us. Since the turn of the millennium when Y2K was important enough to warrant a fridge magnet with the what to do's if it all goes to hell in a hand basket - I have definitely noticed the speed up of time. Maybe something happened that night when all the clocks switched to 0:0:0 00, 00. I can't prove this - I'm no scientist or evolutionary expert, but talk to anyone over the age of 25 and they've noticed this speed up of time. Time is advancing, the pressure is on to live out our dreams! So that's what I'm planning on doing this birthday - I'm getting back on track to living my dreams. There's a few to achieve -so best I log off from this computer and get started!

For the past year I have had the honour of making science interesting for local Christchurch children in an after school Science programme.
With a background in performing arts and limited Science knowledge, this job was set to be challenging for me. I have no worries performing for audiences, but speaking infront of a class of children who probably know more about science than you do - it was really intimidating at first. But as the classes progressed and I got to know my students, they became less intimidating, and my knowledge of science was growing everyday. The shift happened for me when I began performing for the kids - and I don't mean by being a false person. I used the skills from stage performance to bring life to the topics I was teaching - and they started to respond in a super positive way. Every week I have to learn a new topic to teach them - as I'm not coming from a science background, I have to understand the scientific concept in a way that is interesting to me, and I think this is the key to getting them stoked on what they are learning. I had to make a decision a few weeks back, and it was with a heavy heart that I chose a new adventure for myself. Telling my science kids that I was leaving in 4 weeks was heart breaking. They are the sunshine in my day! I have 2 more weeks of lessons with them, and I'm starting to see the impact I have had on them. I'm being showered with gorgeous pictures and words, and it's making the whole process a lot harder for me. I have taken for granted the beautiful energetic audience that I have on a daily basis for the past year - these smiling souls will only be in my daily life for 12 more working days. Their smiles will be with me forever, and I hope to catch up with them when I can. So I end this with some advice for whoever my replacement will be - 'Be true, be yourself and be Interesting! Keep the fire of their learning alive and appreciate each of these kids for who they are and what they bring to you!' Good luck :) At the beginning of every month I write myself a wish list for the month ahead. When writing my Wishlist, I like to include things that will improve who I am as a person, and add in some new goals for myself (some serious - some just for fun). In my May wish list I added a random wish - Remember to Breathe... One thing I have become aware of when doing auditions or any acting work, is that I forget to breathe. I know that sounds stupid to some, but when I get nervous I seem to forget to centre myself with breathing. I was very fortunate to take part in an Audition Workshop, run by two amazing women - Andrea Kelland and Vicky Yiannoutsos when I was up in Auckland. This was a fantastic experience for me, I learnt so much and developed friendships with some very awesome women. So during the workshop there was one word that kept coming up - BREATHING! Hey - I'd put it out to the universe in my wish list so I shouldn't have been so surprised that it became a focal point for me ! So I did remember to breathe - inhale and exhale, and what a difference it makes to your performance on camera - who knew?! Today is the last day of May and I'm happy to say I have succeeded everything on my wish list! Looking forward to tomorrow - because I get to write a new one :) BEC'S MAY 2015 WISHLIST Achieve everything on my 'Wishlist'... ✔ Embrace Auckland and its weather✔ Avoid TopShop until payday/don't spend any money at TopShop✔ New job ✔ New and exciting acting opportunities ✔ Fit everything I need into carry on suitcase and meet the weight limit✔ Be fearless✔ Be thankful, be grateful✔ Remember to breathe✔ Share the love✔ Be the best me I can be ✔ Love, love, love ❤✔ DREAM BIG!
